Before
any treatment is administered, information
is gathered and analyzed to reveal the source
of a client's problem or present state of
health. This in turn allows the therapist
to choose the most effective treatment plan.
Before any assessment or treatment is performed,
the client's clear consent is required. The
client is also requested to wear either a
gown or bring shorts/loose track pants and
T-shirt. Initial intake lasts approximately
half-an-hour, follow-up intakes last approximately
5 minutes.
Health History Form
By means of questions, this informs your therapist of current conditions experienced,
but is not limited to this. Included information on past injuries and surgeries,
family related conditions, and activities of daily living give clues as to what
may have led up to your present state of health.
Complete Postural Assessment
By means of observation and palpation skills, starting from the feet up, the
client's present ability of function is indicated. Some issues that are made
apparent are: any misalignments in joints or imbalances.
Orthopedic Testing
At times pain is a result of biomechanical stress/dysfunction and is often revealed
by activity. By reproducing your pain by means of specific movements or stress,
your therapist can rule out many other possible causes for your condition. This
may reveal and localize restrictions and differences in muscle tone and/or strength. |
